Powder coating is one of the most common and most popular types of paint application process. When cured, powder coating forms a protective finish that is much harder than conventional paint. Powder-coated surfaces are more resistant to chipping, scratching, fading, and wearing than other finishes. There are many colors to choose from for your vehicle. This process we use mainly for rims but grilles and badges can be powder-coated as well.

What is Powder Coating

Like many of the Luminex products, our powder coating is meant to not only make your car look better, but add an element of durability. Powder Coating can be done to almost any metal surface. The process is simple, intuitive and much better for the environment than traditional painting. Powder coating is just like it sounds, colored powder is applied to the part, resulting in a super durable finish. Think of the powder as dry paint that will adhere to the metal through a specialized process:

Prep: The part is removed from the the vehicle and prepped for coating.

Coating: The powder is applied through an electrostatic process in which the part is energized and the powder sticks to the part due to opposing charges.

Curing: In order for the powder to sick successfully, an extensive process must be followed. Generally this step utilizes a large amount of heat in order to produce the hard shell.
